One can now apply for a new passport online from the comfort of their homes and receive their new passport within 7-10 days! A passport is an important document as it works an identification document and enables international travel. Read on to know more about the passport application process for a new passport and the documents you will need to do so.

How To Apply For A New Passport With These Easy Steps:

  1. Head to the official Passport Seva website at – and register by clicking on the “New User Registration” link on the left side of the home page.
  2. Enter the details and information fields shown in the registration page including login-id and password. Provide the correct e-mail address as it is compulsory and you will receive all communications from the Passport Seva on the e-mail id you provide.
  3. Complete the registration by following instructions in the verification e-mail sent to your e-mail id.
  4. Login to the Passport Seva portal by clicking on “Existing User Login” on the home page using your login-id, password and captcha characters displayed.
  5. Select “Apply for Fresh Passport” and you will have 2 choices to apply:
  6. Either by downloading e-form and uploading filled form later or
  7. Filling the application form online.
  8. Download e-form, which can be printed and filled offline then upload a scanned of the filled e-form from “the Upload a filled form” link. Download only the e-form for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport

  1. If filling online, the e-form can be filled online. Enter the correct information in each specified field and double check before confirming.
  2. After confirming the information in the form is correct, click submit.
  3. Next step is online payment & appointment scheduling. Head to the Applicant Home section and select “View Saved/Submitted Applications”
  4. The application number and application date will be displayed, you will find a link for “Pay and Schedule Appointment”
  5. Choose the payment mode you wish to complete payment by:
  6. Either online payment by Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Card
  7. Or by Challan Payment (Cash payment at nearest SBI branch)
  8. The “Schedule Appointment” and select the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Location comfortable/closest for you and the enter the Captcha characters displayed. Then click “Next”
  9. The date on which the appointment is available will be displayed and amount to be paid will be shown.
  10. Confirm the date and click on “Pay & Book Appointment”
  11. Finish the online payment or uploading challan information and complete payment.
  12. The booking will be confirmed once payment is processed (Do not press escape or back while payment is being processed)
  13. Appointment Confirmation window will be displayed after the payment is processed. Here, you will find a “Print Application Receipt” link which will show you the date & time of the application with the address of the PSK.
  14. Print out the Application Receipt and carry it along with your other documents to the PSK on the appointment date & time.

Documents Required for New Passport Application Process

  1. Valid ID-proof with photograph – Aadhar Card, Driving License or any other Govt. Issued ID-Card which contains your photograph.
  2. Birth Certificate (Age Proof)
  3. School Leaving/Migration Certificate
  4. Address Proof – via Electricity Bill, Mobile Bill, Gas Connection Bill etc.
  5. Rental Agreement if applicable
  6. Photo of a Valid Passbook of currently running bank account
