An Estonian passport is issued to the citizens of the Republic of Estonia by the Politsei – ja Piirivalveameti or the Police & Border Guard Board when the citizens apply for a passport in Estonia. Eligibility criteria to apply for an Estonian passport:
- Essentially, the applicant has to be a citizen of Estonia
- And if the age of the applicant is above 15 years, then they will be issued an adult passport
- While the rest of the citizens will get a child Estonian passport
Documents required for an adult Estonian passport:
- Proof of identity
- 1 colour recent photograph
- Marriage certificate (applicable only to a few applicants)
- Fee receipt
Documents required for a child Estonian passport:
- Proof of identity
- Birth certificate
- 1 colour recent photograph
- Fee receipt
- Parental consent
- Parent’s identification along with their marriage certificate
Process to apply for an Estonian passport:
- One will have to head to the post office to get the passport application form
- Fill this passport application form very carefully
- The next step would be that the applicant will have to enclose the required documents
- The documents which are to be attached have been listed below
- Pay the fee in cash or through a credit or a debit card
- One can also opt for the payment of the fee through the online transferring method
- The applicant will be required to submit the passport application form in – person at the Police & Border Guard Board as this deprtment issues the passport
- When the application has been successfully submitted, you shall receive the passport application number
- This passport application number can be found on the acknowledgement
- The applicant must make use of this application number to schedule a bio – metric data appointment
- On the day of the appointment, you will have to go to the office & provide details such as photograph / signature / finger prints
Note:
An applicant can fill the application form online (when they receive the application form through an e – mail attachment) & follow the process from there that is filling the form & submitting it at the Service Office.
Estonian passport fee:
- For the passport that is to be issued to the applicant who is under the age of 15 years, the passport fee is € 20
- For an adult Estonian passport, fee is € 40
Validity of an Estonian passport:
An Estonian passport is valid for 5 years that is from the date it is issued.

An Estonian passport is usually issued in 30 days & the time taken is calculated from the time the authorities receive the passport application form.
